Basajaun Sightings

4 documented sightings across Pyrenees mountains of Spain and France.

  1. Near Bielsa, Huesca Province, Pyrenees, Spain

Mountain climber Jaun Ramo Ferver reported sighting a reddish ape-like creature on a forested Pyrenean slope near the village of Bielsa. The creature moved through the trees by leaping branch to branch and produced a high-pitched squealing vocalization before disappearing into denser forest at altitude. Ferver estimated it at over five feet and noted its movements as far more fluid than a human climber.

  3. Pyrenees mountains, Huesca Province, Aragon, Spain

Workers at an outdoor site in the Huesca Pyrenees observed a six-foot ape-like creature sitting in a tree making animal noises. When the creature noticed them it descended, picked up a tree trunk, and hurled it in their direction before retreating into the forest. The incident was reported to local media and later collected by Spanish cryptozoologists as one of the more credible modern Basajaun encounter reports.

  4. Mailuxe Cave, Navarra, Basque Country, Spain

An eyewitness account documented by ethnographer J.M. Satrústegui described a young Basajaun observed basking in the sun at the entrance to the Mailuxe cave, described as blond and heavily built. A separate elder interviewed by Satrústegui for his book 'Mitos y Creencias' stated that Basajauns would regularly visit his homestead in Valcarlos for reasons he never determined. Modern livestock farmers in Valcarlos and Ondorrola stated they remained fully convinced of the creature's existence.
