Rosemary Turner reported observing a large creature from a lookout point in Muogamarra Nature Reserve on the lower Hawkesbury River. Turner described watching a large animal swimming upstream at speed, displacing water in a manner she insisted was inconsistent with any fish, seal, or floating debris she had ever seen. She stated emphatically that the animal was far too large to belong to any known species. Hawkesbury River near Windsor, New South Wales, Australia
John Nelson was on the river near Windsor when he noticed a disturbance in the water approximately 50 metres from an anchored yacht. An 'ugly, snake-like head' rose from the surface, followed by several metres of body. He described the neck as at least two feet thick and the head as roughly two-and-a-half feet long by one-and-a-half feet wide, with a pale underside and darker dorsal colouring consistent with countershading. Several other people aboard nearby boats witnessed portions of the event. Nelson's account is considered one of the more detailed and credible records of the creature due to the daylight conditions, close proximity, and multiple observers.
