St Mawnan and St Stephen's Church, Mawnan Smith, Cornwall, England
A young woman writing to researcher Doc Shiels described seeing a large owl-like humanoid figure standing on a branch near the church at dusk. She noted its eyes appeared to glow silver-grey in the failing light and that it turned its head to follow her movement before spreading broad wings and ascending silently. The 1978 sighting was one of several reported in the two years following the initial 1976 incidents.

Two 14-year-old girls, Sally Chapman and Barbara Perry, were camping near the church when they were confronted by what they described as 'a big owl with pointed ears, as big as a man' with glowing eyes and black pincer-like claws. Investigator Tony Shiels had both girls draw the creature independently; he found the drawings similar enough in detail to verify the account but distinct enough to rule out collusion.

Sisters June (12) and Vicky (9) Melling, on Easter holiday from Preston, wandered into the churchyard and observed a large feathered bird-man hovering above the church tower. They described huge red eyes and claws shaped like blacksmiths' pincers. Their father Don immediately cut short the family holiday. June later provided investigator Tony 'Doc' Shiels with a detailed drawing of the creature.
