Badi Bolon wetlands, North Bank Region, The Gambia
A Centre for Fortean Zoology expedition led by researcher Richard Freeman collected eyewitness testimony from two local guides who each independently described encountering a large reptilian creature in the Badi Bolon mangrove swamps. Both described a creature longer than a crocodile with a raised neck and reflective skin; one guide refused to return to the site.

River Gambia wetlands, Central River Division, The Gambia
Villagers along the River Gambia described a massive serpentine creature they called Ninki Nanka inhabiting the deep swamp channels and oxbow pools. Accounts consistently described a long neck, horse-like head, and shimmering scales; elders stated that to look directly at it brought illness or death. The accounts were collected across several riverine communities by local oral historians.
